Report on the events in Graz on 10th November 1938

In Graz the formerly esteemed and generally popular senior rabbi, university professor and historian was taken from his bed at an early hour, dragged by his beard to the cemetery, was ordered to dig his own grave there; he was left there in the most appalling state.

The well-known Graz furniture dealer Kommerzialrat X., earlier president of the Graz Kultusgemeinde, was taken from his home in underwear during the night, beaten beyond recognition, was left lying in a pool of blood; he was so disfigured that his own wife was unable to recognise him.

Girls from the better Jewish households were driven in barrows to the river Mur where they were all ordered to jump into the water. The girls were driven half mad by the torture.
