... my nephew Herr F. has forwarded to me your esteemed letter addressed to him. As I have still not received any reply from the Comité to date, I have aproached them directly and enclose a copy here.
Please accept, dear Herr X., my most sincere and heartfelt thanks for your efforts, but be assured that for us the matter is particularly pressing. Your efforts will fall on fertile ground and only bring you rewards. As you well know my good husband died on 10th November from a heart attack, I have also had an 81-year-old father, a 77-year-old mother and a 75-year-old aunt living with me for many years, and I no longer run my business. Everything will be done by the local community for my little daughter to get her away soon, however I am very worried about my boy. May I turn to you with a request or a suggestion, for I think day and night as to what can be done. As my boy is 18 years old and was already employed in the hotel profession as encl. witness statements testify, would it perhaps be possible for a shipping company in Holland or the Netherlands to in some way employ him as a steward or in the kitchen on a ship, even if it is a very small shipping company. He does not want any pay, just free board. Perhaps he could go to a Dutch colony? We are happy with anything. I look forward with the greatest interest to a very valued reply.
Respectfully yours and with deep gratitude
...
