A Scandinavian friend who was in Berlin in the days from 9th to 11th December 1938 informs me that he has the impression that the German people by and large condemns the regime and the recent pogroms. It is certainly difficult to achieve absolute clarity about this as nobody dares to speak out openly. In contrast he has indeed learned from comments by Christians with whom he has business dealings how dissatisfied they are and how they have said much against the existing regime in a concealed manner.
