As already mentioned c. 60 places of worship have been rendered unusable. Completely blown up are:

The Hietzinger Tempel, the newest and most modern Tempel in Vienna.

The Tempel in Siebenbrunnengasse, Vienna V.

The Türkischer Tempel in Zirkusgasse, Vienna II., one of the oldest, certainly however one of the most beautiful Sephardic Tempel in the whole world.

Large fires were recorded at:

Großer Leopoldstädter Tempel, Vienna II., Tempelgasse, the largest Tempel of all anywhere in Vienna, where incidentally as reported, an attempt at arson was already made on the night of Yom Kippur.

Pazmaniten-Tempel, Vienna II., a conservative place of worship.

Schiff-Schul, the Tempel of the strictly Orthodox Jews of Vienna, which was also already stricken once in October.

The Seitenstettentempel, the oldest place of worship in Vienna, next to which the office of the Vienna Kultusgemeinde is situated, was "only" totally wrecked and stripped out. On this occasion numerous Jews had the torn-up Thorarollen tied to their backs, they had to put on kittels and tallit stolen from the Tempel and were chased through the streets of the inner city, the centre of Vienna! with the lulav in their hands. In individual Bezirke of Vienna, especially in Leopoldstadt, the "Jewish Bezirk", the prayer implements and prayer books were publicly burned and this medieval spectacle rapturously cheered by the crowd. The home of the senior rabbi of Vienna, which is in the house of the Großer Leopoldstädter Tempel mentioned above, has been completely wrecked. The ceremonial halls at gates I. and IV. of the Simmering cemetery, the latter only built a few years ago at considerable expense, are no longer standing; visiting the cemeteries is only now permitted up to 1 o'clock in the afternoon. – The wife of a senior cantor, whose home was stormed, has gone mad from the horror – incidentally like many fellow sufferers.

Amongst the c. 30,000 arrested people are numerous women and children. As "substitute" for fathers perhaps not found at home, boys from 14-15 years of age were arrested, as were old people of 70 years of age for the sons not found. The arrested people were taken in the period from the night of 9.11 and during the whole day of 10.11 not only from their homes but also veritable traps for people were erected on the streets, people were fetched out of the tram, bus, station etc. They were transported in lorries, even in cattle-trucks, just as one takes pigs or oxen to the slaughterhouse. Already on climbing in, on holding the handrail, their bare fingers were hit with iron rods, during the transport with sticks and iron rods on their bare heads.

The arrested people were assembled en masse in the Notarreste and penned up, there were c. 4,000 to 5,000 people in the stable of the police barracks who spent more than 36 hours standing without food, until individuals who had the good fortune to be able to prove an immediate emigration were released. They were ordered to perform military exercises standing on the manure, they were forced to dirty each other's faces with muck, punch and slap each others' faces etc. If these blows given to each other were not strong enough in the opinion of the commandant, the guards themselves dealt out the blows in an appropriately intensified manner.

The results of this unheard-of bullying were suicides and mass transports to the hospitals which were overcrowded. Many "suicides" were also committed by those people where weapons were allegedly found during the official investigation.

Some homes were completely stripped out, some utterly wrecked, so that not one armchair remained whole. The Jewish shops, of which the majority were wrecked, have as yet not been reopened. Many homes were sealed and furnishings, clothes, linen etc. were forcibly "sold" or auctioned for a ridiculously cheap sum. In this way e.g. a superbly furnished, three-room home was sold for RM. 270.-.
