16 November 1938
Dear Sir,
It was reported in the Algemeen Handelsblad of 13 November amongst other things that the Jewish orphanage at Dinslaken near Oberhausen had closed and that the orphans are wandering about aimlessly in the country. The Director of that orphanage is the father of the Director of our Jewish orphanage in Antwerp, Dr. Rothschild.
Two days before the murder in Paris, the Director of Dinslaken travelled to Palestine. According to communications from our Director here, it is indeed correct that the orphanage in Dinslaken closed. The children are not, however, walking about in Germany but were brought to the “Rau Inn” in Dinslaken, led by the sister of Dr. Rothschild, Mirjam Rothschild.
The children who had family members were returned to them, though the actual orphans are in the above-named inn.
I explain this to you as requested by the Director of our orphanage, so that your efforts to bring children from Germany to the Netherlands are informed and possibly you can do something for these children.
